Why Can't I Lose Weight?

There is a huge misconception that becoming healthier exercise always means losing weight. The best fitness program will result in the loss of fat and an increase in muscle. The goal should always be developing a healthy body and lifestyle. Instead of focusing on losing weight, the fitness program should be designed around creating a healthy Body Mass Index (BMI).

What is BMI?


Body Mass Index is a measurement of the proportions of weight to height. Since it is readily available for the mass of the population, physicians use this measurement to asses a persons obesity rate. BMI does have a flaw though. I can not differentiate body fat versus muscle mass. For example, if a body builder were tested it would say he is obese even though his body fat is low! It is important to work with a professional personal trainer to ensure you are getting the best workout for your needs.

So What is Body Fat?


Body fat (over all fat in the body) can be dangerous, some forms more than others. Hip and thigh fat is less metabolically dangerous than abdominal or organ fat. High amounts of central fat increases risks in insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, while low extremity fat does not. Following a good plan will help you reduce body fat and increase muscle.

What Should I do?
